Lagos Assembly Members Meets Constituents

 






Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday (October 29th) met with their respective constituents across the whole 40 constituencies in Lagos State. The Constituency Stakeholders Meeting which is an annual event tagged; Post Covid-19 pandemic: The challenges and prospects.



Ikorodu Division Youth Voice was present at that of Honourable S O.B Agunbiade held at the 700 seater hall, Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, Lagos.


In his keynote address, Hon. S.O.B Agunbiade highlighted the Genesis of COVID-19 and how it spread across the world and eventually found its way to Lagos State, Nigeria. It is important to note that Lagos remains the epicenter of the virus in Nigeria. 


"Since the outbreak of the pandemic the world has sadly recorded over 1 million deaths with total cases of infected persons put at 37 million while the total number of recovered persons is 26 million. It would be recalled that on the 27th of February, 2020, the first case of COVID-19 was detected in Lagos State and subsequently, the House on the 2nd of March of 2020 passed a resolution commending the Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his team for their prompt response in addressing the outbreak of the disease in the state", he said.


Speaking further, the Honourable member told his Constituents the role of the State House of Assembly in ensuring the recent crisis witnessed in the state as an aftermath of the EndSars Protest does not have an overwhelming impact of the state's economy. He noted that the unfortunate incident was just a minor setback for the state, that the state will learn from the lessons and ensure a greater Lagos is realised.





He also used the medium to clear the air on the recent media reports which stated that he hoarded COVID19 palliatives met for his Constituents. He emphasised that he will never hoard anything whatsoever meant to cushion the effects of socio-economic lapses on his people, saying that he will never taint his integrity by that action.


He said the reported hoarded palliatives was met to cater for 700 less privileged members of his Constituency which he procured with his personal resources.



According to Agunbiade, "those who came to loot the materials meant to be distributed to widows and less privileged in my constituency and also vandalized and carted away my personal belongings from my home have all been arrested. One of the hoodlums who vandalized my private properties also took one of my dogs away, he has been arrested also alongside my stolen dog."


Traditional rulers, Community Development Associations (CDAs), Artisans, Trade men and women and members of various Youth groups in Ikorodu took turn to express their views as most of the attendees emphasised on the need for good governance and the importance of collaboration between the government and the led, most especially those at the grassroot level.


Various Ikorodu prominent members and traditional rulers were all present at the event in order to show their solidarity and affirmative stand in support of the activities of the Honourable member as a representative of the constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly. Vote of confidence was also passed on Honourable S.O.B Agunbiade by his constituents.
