LAGOS COUNCIL POLLS: "I Will Make Ijede LCDA The Miami of Lagos If Elected"

The Incumbent Vice Chairman of Ijede LCDA and the Chairmanship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming Local Government Elections in Ijede Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, Hon (MRS) Motunrayo Gbadebo- Alogba has said she would make Ijede LCDA the Miami of Lagos.

In her interactive session with the Ikorodu Division Youth Initiative (IDYI) over the weekend, the candidate stated the need to maximize the coastal prowess of Ijede which according to her can make Ijede a tourist centre in Lagos State and in Nigeria at large.

Q: What motivated you to join politics and what is your political ideology?

For me politics was something I was born into because my late mum was a frontrunner when it comes to mobilisation. Her activities of selfless caring motivated me to study political science in the University and I can say today that my political ideology is social-welfarism. By this, the interest of the the people in my immediate environment is often of great concern to me.

Q: By virtue of two very important sects your candidacy is aligned to, the youth constituency and the female gender, it is apparent the public looks takes special interest in your candidacy, what distinct plans do you have in elevating the status of Ijede Lcda?

Thank you very much for this question. I must say that it is loaded.

Having put myself forward to seek the votes of the people of Ijede LCDA, I have after broad consultations designed a mini-document I tagged
The Motunrayo Advancement Plan (MAP) for Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

This plan I consider my social contract with the people of Ijede LCDA.

Considering the peculiarity of Ijede town as the host of the biggest Power Station in the West African Sub-region - Egbin Power Station, Ijede is a fertile and arable land with water bodies, it is believed that 'The Advancement Plan’ when put forward for implementation will strategically mop-up idle hands by creating sustainable employment opportunities through Vocational Jobs, Tourism, Community Service, mechanized farming and agro-allied businesses which in the short and long term will enhance the ease of doing business and drive revenue generation for the council.

Q: As a vice chairman, what are your greatest achievements and impacts in Ijede LCDA?

The major challenge in Ikorodu Division which Ijede is not left out currently is security. As part of the MAP, an holistic approach to security would be deployed which involves getting all major stakeholders in Ijede on board through a replica of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, in what we would call Ijede Security Trust Fund. The idea behind the Trust fund is to make every residents in Ijede see security as a collective responsibility. We hope that through the trust fund, we would be able to properly equip both the local VGN and Police to effectively police everyone because no business strives in a state of insecurity and chaos.

Q: What do you intend to do that will distinguish you from other Local Government Chairmen in Ikorodu division?

Presently, there is no major market and car park in Ijede, when we start out and with the corporation of stakeholders and the state government, we hope to put these in place and it would help our revenue.

We would also be giving a strong attention to tourism because Ijede can easily be the next Miami of Ikorodu Division with its easy Ferry access to Lagos Island.

Q: What do you want to do in ensuring that your administration boost IGR of ijede LCDA?

The process of IGR generation is broad and my intention if elected is to give it a multidimensional approach that involves opening up Ijede LCDA to enhance the ease of doing business. By so doing, we can guarantee that more private businesses would come up and this would translate in the short and long term to addition revenue for the LCDA.

Q: Schools in Ijede Lcda seems sparsely deposited compared to the growing population, the effect of this is overcrowding of classes and of course students traveling long distance to access quality education.
How does your administration seek to improve this trend?

Currently, Ijede has 4 primary schools and a secondary school, our plan is to continuously improve on their respective infrastructure to make learning more conducive for the pupils. I understand the importance of having a strong foundation for the children and my MAP takes special care of that. I am aware the Community has given the LCDA a space to for school and we would be working on it when given the opportunity to lead.
