COMMUNIQUÉ: Ikorodu Division Evaluation of Socio-Political Development: 10 Years Assessment

COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE MAIDEN ONLINE WEBINAR OF IGBEGA IKORODU HELD ON THURSDAY, 22ND SEPTEMBER, 2022


The Igbega Ikorodu Online Webinar titled; Ikorodu Division Evaluation of Socio-Political Development: 10 Years Assessment had several seasoned speakers who are vast in the historical and contemporary events of Ikorodu in attendance to inform the public and attendees of the programme about the happenings in Ikorodu as a division in Lagos State. 

The programme which was educative, explosive and informative had the following resolutions:

1. The effects of population explosion/growth in the last 10years in Ikorodu has made developments to be more difficult to implement.

2. Social developments and infrastructures such as the establishment of  community radios and upgrade of some public schools have made properties in Ikorodu to appreciate in the last 10 years.

3. There has been high record of drug addiction, cultism and hooliganism amongst young people in Ikorodu.

4. Public Schools in Ikorodu are heavily congested.

5. Road networks are bad, especially in areas like, Isawo, Adamo, Maya, Bayeku, etc.


6. Ikorodu indigenes are not being given utmost and deserving recognition in the State Public Service while the Federal Civil Service level is absolutely worse. 


7. Ikorodu local government and local council development areas are not effective. They only pay meagre salaries as it were.


8. Budget from 2019 till date shows a trend that Local Government Areas in Lagos State (Ikorodu Inclusive) do not generate IGR, they solely depend on externals whom they get revenues from.

9. Reports shows that the level of Lagos State budget implementation as it affects Ikorodu is an outstanding one while that of the Federal Government level needs more room for improvements.

10. Honourable Babajimi Benson, Member of House of Representatives representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency has made sixteen (16) laws and moved two (2) motions on the floor of the House of Representatives.

ii) He has also facilitated some road construction projects in Sabo, Ogolonto, Igbe road and several others in Ikorodu metropolis.

iii) Provision of transformers to communities, street lights and other amenities were also implemented for Ikorodu people courtesy of HMR, Babajimi Benson.


11. A lot has to be done in the area of capital projects and emphasis were also made on the crucial and urgent need to engage Ikorodu young people via investments that are youth-oriented.


12. Efforts should be put in place for the next Governor of Lagos State to emerge from Ikorodu division


13. Massive orientation for Ikorodu young people against all social vices and get-rich-quick syndrome.
