Ikorodu INEC Ready For General Elections In Ikorodu, Says E.O

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the Center For Posterity NG and Igbega Ikorodu held a sensitization programme on the need for electorates to get their PVCs in preparation against the elections.

The programme which was tagged; "My PVC and 2023 Elections" had the Electoral Officer(E.O), Independent National Electoral Commission, ( INEC), Ikorodu local government, Mrs. Ayeleso Olutoyin and her deputy, Mr. Johnson In attendance.

They tasked electorates in Lagos state, especially registered voters in Ikorodu to come out en masse to take advantage of the current collection of Permanent Voter's Card (PVC) nationwide to equip themselves ahead of next year’s elections.

Mrs. Olutoyin said all efforts have been put in place for the process of collection to be seamless.

Below is the conversation between the moderators of the program and the INEC's E.O as collated by I.D.Y.V Correspondent who monitored the programme:

What is the situation with the collection of PVC in Ikorodu at the moment?

The situation is peaceful and calm and people are collecting their cards (transfer and incidences)

Elections are just few weeks away and interested electorate must have his/her PVC to exercise their civic rights. Ma’am, could you please explain the process of PVC collection to us?

You are to present yourself in person,no collection by proxy, you're to come along with your print out/the old PVC if it's transfer or incedence.

What's the time frame for the PVC collection?

9a.m -3 p.m, Mondays - Sundays

When is the collection window closing?

January for now

Any plan to decentralise the distribution of PVC considering the enormous population in Ikorodu?

Yes not only in Ikorodu Lga but all over Lagos

What days of the week are residents allowed to visit your office to collect their PVC?

Monday - Sunday

What happens if someone loses his/her Permanent Voters Card (PVC) before election?

Such person will not be allowed to vote.

Registration for PVCs required people to leave their homes at 4am just to meet up. That was herculean. Is it same for the collection?

No

Like NIN, are there possibilities of mistake(s) on PVCs? If yes, what's the procedure to amend such mistake(s)?

During registration, at the end of every quarters, there is an exercise called Claims and Objection which is geared toward correcting all wrongs that could be made on our PVC before submition  for printing of the cards  If this is properly done, there ought to be no mistake when the PVC is printed.

But, in a situation when a person does not make any correction during this exercise, there is likelihood  that PVC with wrong details could occur. If such happens, we will have to wait for correction whenever the Commission deem it fit to do such exercise again. Thanks

For the new registrants, when are they likely to get their PVCs and which period of registration is due for collection before the election day?

As from Sunday, guess I have answered the second part

Is there any hope for many yet to registered due to circumstances beyond their control to still have the opportunity to do so? Also, what happens if someone loses his PVC before election?

There is no hope of registration/registering before election, the second part has been answered by Mr Johnson.

The programme was held online via the WhatsApp platform of "Igbega Ikorodu", a socio-political group whose responsibility is to push Ikorodu's interest into actualization.
