Buhari Renews Abike Dabiri-Erewa's Appointment As NiDCOM Chairman

Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has renewed the appointment of the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa for a second term in office. The notice of her reappointment was contained in a letter written by the President to the Senate requesting the Upper Chamber to confirm her reappointment. The letter dated April 26 was addressed to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday. DATTI-INTERVIEW: Channels Television Slammed With N5million Fine By NBC

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has slammed a fine of N5 million on Channels TV for breaking the broadcasting code in an interview programme with Dr Datti Baba-Ahmed, Labour Party Vice Presidential candidate. The fine was revealed in a letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of the television station and dated March 27. The letter was exclusively obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja. The letter, with the title: “Broadcast of an Inciting Interview, A Sanction”, was signed by Balarabe Ilelah, the commission’s Director-General. Old Naira Notes Remain Legal Tender In Lagos, Says Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has directed all markets women and men in the state to accept old naira notes henceforth. In the same vein, the Governor also directed revenue agents of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDAs, in the state to accept the old and new naira notes. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's directive was predicated on the order of the Supreme Court stamping the old naira notes as legal tender till 31st December, 2023. A statement personally signed by the Governor reads: "My dear Lagosians, I have noted the difficulties that you have been having over the naira redesign crisis. I feel your pains. Kindly note that commercial banks have been directed to accept the old N500 and N1,000 notes as deposits and pay them out for withdrawals. LASU Staff Slumps, Dies While Queuing For N5,000

A Grade Level 13 officer with the Lagos State University(LASU) Ojo, Mr Ademola Adesola has reportedly slumped and died while queuing in a bank within the university to withdraw N5,000 of new notes as officially pegs by the bank for an individual account holder. The Head of the Publicity and Public Relations Unit of the university, Mr Jeariogbe Olaniyi, confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, describing the development as very unfortunate. According to him, the late Adesola drove himself to the school in the morning and something around 11.30 am, he left the office for the bank to collect money from his account while waiting, he slumped and died in the process. He said the deceased spent only about 30 minutes or thereabouts in the queue and not several hours as reported by some online media platforms when he suddenly collapsed and could not be revived. The Lagos State Government wishes to put on record the patience and calmness of Lagosians following the controversy generated by the Naira shortage crisis.   The State Government has joined the dispute at the Supreme Court, which today adjourned the hearing of the matter till February 22. When the matter first came up on February 8, the apex court said the old notes remained legal tender.  That position has not changed. The State Government hereby warns those rejecting the old notes to desist from doing so or face prosecution. The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Public Private Partnerships, today announced Messrs CCECC-CRCCIG CONSORTIUM as the preferred bidder for the proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge project. Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Private Partnerships, Mr. Ope George, who disclosed this during a briefing at the PPP Office in Ikeja, said the Fourth Mainland Bridge (4MB) Project, which is a proposed Public Private Partnership (PPP) transport infrastructure development, will comprise of the construction and operation of a greenfield tolled road and bridge with a design speed of 120km/h, including the development of adjacent real estates.  He added that the Bridge, when completed, would become the second longest in Africa with three toll plazas, nine interchanges, a 4.5km Lagoon Bridge and an eco-friendly environment. The group said that more than 10,000 PVCs were yet to be collected by their respective owners in Ikorodu, Lagos. We Are Under Attack, 65,699 PVCs destroyed in Ogun, Osun Offices, INEC Raises Alarm

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday said 65,699 uncollected Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) were destroyed by hoodlums who attacked two of its offices in Ogun and Osun states. According to Chairman, INEC Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, 904 ballot boxes, 29 voting cubicles, 30 megaphones, 57 election bags, and eight electric power generators were also destroyed by the unscrupulous elements. The attacks occurred separately at the commission’s offices in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State and the Ede South Local Government Area Of Osun State. Okoye, in a statement, said both incidents occurred in the early hours of Thursday, noting that while the entire building of its Abeokuta office was set ablaze, a portion of its Ede office was burnt.
